Jeanne has over 32 years of physical therapy experience. She moved to Port Townsend in 1977, where she created the Rehab Department at Jefferson General Hospital and provided physical therapy through the hospital, home health, and local nursing home for 13 years. Once the hospital rehabilitation department was well established, she started a small private practice clinic where she has been ever since. Wanting to focus more on patient care and spending time with her grandchildren, Jeanne sold Dirksen Physical Therapy to Amy Irene Lynch, PT in 2007. Dirksen Physical Therapy became Discovery Physical Therapy and Jeanne continues to enjoy the career she loves working per diem at the clinic.
Jefferson County has a large retirement community. Many of the clients Jeanne has treated over the years are aging adults. She became impressed with the potential for health improvements through physical therapy in this population, and soon made geriatrics her area of special interest. In addition to physical therapy treatment, Jeanne developed a wellness and prevention program for aging adults. The program focused on maintaining independence and function through improving strength, bone density, and balance. This program has also served an important social function for the community.
Working on the Olympic Peninsula has given Jeanne extended experience with many orthopedic problems and post-surgical rehabilitation. Jeanne has extensive experience treating sports injuries, work injuries, stroke, M.S., ParkinsonÂ’s Disease, and chronic pain problems.
