What to Expect

Prepare for your visit

Evaluation

  • When coming to Discovery Physical Therapy for a new condition, your therapist will complete an evaluation.
  • The evaluation will start by the therapist asking questions about the history of the problem, how it has changed over time, and what you goals are for therapy.
  • Then the therapists will evaluate the body parts related to the problem assessing strength, movement, posture, and sensation to see how your muscles, joints, and nerves are working.
  • Based on these findings, the therapist will create a unique treatment plan to treat the problem.
  • The therapist will discuss the evaluation findings and treatment plan with you to make sure you feel comfortable with the plan.

Treatment

  • Treatment options may include soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, muscle retraining, movement retraining, strengthening, and stretching.
  • There are many other treatment options and techniques, depending on your unique condition, that can be utilized by your therapist.
  • Before applying a treatment technique, the therapist will explain what will happen and how you are expected to benefit from the technique to make sure you feel comfortable with the plan.
  • Ultimately, the goal of physical and occupational therapy is to teach you how to help your body heal and prevent future re-injury.

What to Wear

  • For the first 2 appointments, wear shorts or stretchy pants, and a tank top or t-shirt.
  • After the evaluation, your therapist will let you know what to wear.
